Account health
How to assess Reddit account health before posting
Assess account health by looking at several observable signals together: post and comment karma, recent comment scores, removals, and restrictions. These observations help you decide what to investigate. They do not reveal Reddit’s internal reputation systems or predict whether your next contribution will be accepted.
What does karma actually tell you?
Reddit describes karma as a reflection of votes on posts and comments, and says the relationship is not one vote to one karma point. Some communities use karma requirements to restrict participation. A total karma figure therefore provides context, but it cannot establish eligibility everywhere.
Look at post karma and comment karma separately, then read the recent contributions behind them. An account with a successful old post may have little experience answering questions in your intended community. Check the community’s stated requirements rather than assuming a large total removes all restrictions.
Read recent feedback before increasing activity
As a practical starting point, review your last twenty comments. Record the community, visible score, whether the comment remains visible, and any removal explanation. Twenty is a convenient review sample, not a safety threshold. Small samples and fluctuating scores make precise conclusions difficult.
A negative score is not an exact count of downvotes. Treat it as a reason to reread the exchange. Was the answer incorrect, off-topic, repetitive, or more promotional than the question warranted? Several poorly received replies in one community deserve closer attention than a single unpopular opinion.
Separate removals from ordinary disagreement
If content appears removed, inspect the notice or moderator message for a reason. Do not automatically label every missing contribution as spam or a hidden account restriction. A removal observation and an explanation for that removal are different pieces of evidence.
For your own review log, use explicit labels such as “removal observed; reason unknown” or “moderator cited rule about promotion.” If a tool cannot fetch recent comments, record the result as unavailable. Missing data should never turn into a reassuring health assessment.
Turn the findings into a specific action
When several replies are removed, pause the affected activity and inspect the reasons before adding more. When comments remain visible but receive negative feedback, review relevance and tone. When a community restricts your account, respect the restriction and use its stated clarification or appeal process.
For an account with little recent history, begin by reading and contributing where you have direct knowledge. There is no universal daily reply allowance or account-age milestone that guarantees acceptance. Keep the underlying observations visible so you can explain each decision without relying on a vague numerical rating.
